The Four Rails

An operation needs four rails to be complete:

• input — the data that arrives
• output — the data that leaves on success
• error — the data that leaves on failure
• trait — what the operation is like

The operation took four years to find. The rails took four days. Because the operation was new — and the rails were always there.

What we claim

If we cannot find a counterexample to a statement, we record it as a fact. Not as truth — as a fact that has survived every test we could throw at it.

How we work

We observe, hypothesize, test, and record — in the order it happens. Devlogs are append-only.
